The RECOVER Matchmaking Event “Black is the new Green” took place on 8th November 2018 in Faculty Club, Leuven with 80 attendees. The event was organised by SREMat, KU Leuven and funded by EIT RawMaterials.
RECOVER is bringing together stakeholders from the metallurgical and construction sectors to join forces towards industrial by-products’ valorisation for the sake of environmental protection and sustainable constructions.
RECOVER’s endeavors can be summarized in three pillars:
Upcycling RECOVER is working on the valorisation of non-ferrous metallurgy slags into engineered products that can be integrated into sustainable building solutions and infrastructure. Thereby, the project is offering solutions against stockpiling industrial residues, promotes CO2 emissions reduction and circular economy.
Upscaling RECOVER is building modular and mobile upscaling units to demonstrate the validity of the proposed solutions. The units are being designed in such a manner that can be adaptable to valorise a wide range of industrial by-products. They can operate autonomously and modularly for on-site production at isolated areas or in synergy with industrial production lines. After the end of the project, the proposed solutions can be transferred into existing building materials’ production facilities.
Linking RECOVER is calling for an alliance of stakeholders towards the valorisation of industrial by-products, and is seeking construction materials manufacturers to work together for the introduction of the proposed solutions onto the market.
